The -A Single Blade of Grass - project is a sustainable umbrella organism, promoting the vision of
"Our world working for all of us without exception."
Applying the principles of "Social Acupuncture"

activism for the new millennium, through a collective of grass roots, creative, activist projects.
Understanding that there is the blueprint of an oak tree inside of every acorn,
clearing the blocks to allow the oak tree to grow optimally.
Working with individuals and groups in the community at large, also globally through the internet.
"It's our conversation that pulls the trigger"
Reclaiming, empowering and changing our world by changing our conversation.

  Where did this idea originate? How did it develop?

In some form, I believe that the vision came in with me at birth, growing and developing through childhood
in response and reaction to my childhood circumstances and the cultural climate
in which I grew up - post WW11 and the cold war etc.

The world always appeared upside down to me - from my immediate home environment, my school,
and the world all around. A world inviting and expecting me to join a story that wasn't making anyone happy
and was/is leading us all down the path to self-destruction.
The common thread throughout has been a desire for a true community environment.
To bring into that environment the elements that appear to be missing-
fun, freedom, love, togetherness etc.

The methodology has evolved as I have become more conscious.
From childhood in the street playing, at grammar school creating -the junior scientific society - -

and being deeply moved by the horror of realizing that with nuclear weapons,
there was nowhere to hide from the effects, this moved me to commit to do something to prevent them being used

These simple playful experiments grew, developed, and refined as I grew.
They became more serious and intentional as I began to understand both the power of what I was tapping
into and the crying need in our world for a simple, safe, practical path to untangle the mess
which we have created for ourselves.

Over a period of the past 40 years, I have been involved in many interesting projects,
some more successful than others. All have been great learning experiences and enrichment to my life.
Many lives have been touched and I have honed my skills, learning how to be effective in the global theatre.

There is no electronic record of projects before 1998,
I am am scanning and uploading older material as I am able.

The Late 60's and 70's

ARTS LABORATORIES, THEATRE MUSIC FESTIVALS ETC
In my adolescence and early 20's I was involved in staging many music and art events
sometimes involving thousands of people.

OUTSET

A project in Plymouth that raised money for single homelessness through enrolling schoolchildren in community service projects & having local businesses and individuals sponsor them by the hour for the work accomplished.

THE BATH ST MISSION
Plymouth, a soup kitchen / counselling centre for the homeless.

DEVONPORT YOUTH CENTER
Plymouth, working with the young people from the Devonport council estates.

HOUSING ACTION GROUP
This project involved organising homeless families in the renovation of empty,
run down houses owned by the city council, bringing them up to code.

1980's

SELF SUFFICIENT COMMUNITIES
I have been involved in the initiation of several communities, most notably in
the mountains of Wales I was a founding member the now infamous "Tipi Valley"
After my Wales experience, I began to look within for my truth, immersing myself in meditation,
meditating 3 hours every morning and every night. This intense discipline created a powerful habit/groove
of inner focus that I now gravitate to by default during my everyday life.
In 1978 I went to America fell in love and married

THE TURNING POINT

Chapel Hill NC - A centre for the realization, development and enjoyment of creative potential.
This was a project that I created and ran along with my wife of the time for 3 years.
The building was formally a car wash. We equipped it with creative tools and materials
A stage with musical instruments was always available.
People, especially young people, would come and experiment freely and develop.
At weekends we would host events for hundreds of young people from all over North Carolina.

This evolved later into a another project in Asheville NC called "Mission Possible"

THE 1990's

Chapel Hill NC This project was created during the process of my divorce and subsequent child custody issues.
The goal being to bring a more enlightened approach into the challenge of parenting after divorce.
We campaigned for, and were instrumental in introducing mandatory mediation in all contested child custody cases.

Along with this I was also actively involved with the action group

and hosted a weekly workshop downtown Chapel Hill North Carolina called

addressing the fundamental misunderstanding that men and women have of one another.

I began to understand that the culture is purely a reflection of our conversation,
collective and personal and use this as an umbrella for all my projects.

OPERATION WE CARE

During the height of the siege of Sarajevo I organized a campaign to send letters and gifts to
the Bosnian people, to help empower them with a glimmer of hope, knowing that
there are other people in the world that know and care about their plight, and
that there is another reality possible, other than the one in which they found themselves.

This campaign was replicated during the Iraq standoff in 1997 as a
"21st century solution to Iraq crisis "21ST CENTURY SOLUTION TO IRAQ CRISIS"

Along with this, I was involved in the running of another group:

This group's mission was to raise public awareness of the plight of the Bosnian people and
also to be a voice of restraint and caution in the escalation of the use of the military to launch air strikes on Bosnia.
We organised public meetings and flyer and letter writing campaigns -
all this was before the internet and e-mail became widely available.

RUSSIAN ELECTIONS

Networking to the Russian people encouraging them to vote with their faith rather than their fear
during the run up to the Russian elections in '97,
as there was a strong possibility they would vote totalitarians back into power.

BRING BACK THE DEAD

This campaign was created to address the issues raised when the town of Chapel hill NC banned the return of The Grateful Dead and the Janet Jackson concert. The issues raised were censorship, the alienation of young people and the power that a few individuals - personal prejudices have to effect the lives of the rest of us.
Problems the city were blaming on the young people were
a result of their own lack of planning during previous concerts

EVERY CHILD IS A TERRIFIC KID

A response to the nationwide "TERRIFIC KID" campaign in America, highlighting certain children who achieve a level of approval according to a certain set of values - "terrific kids" leaving the others feeling inadequate because they don't meet the standard dictated by those values. This campaign went on to address the issues of increased parental involvement in the school and controversy in two local schools in Asheville NC -
Asheville Middle School & Isaac Dixon.

Center for Infinite Possibility - Empowerment Workshop - A space created downtown Asheville NC.
This project was very interesting and resulted in some local contraversy
as it raised issues of core values and attitudes towards the young and creative members of the community.

Understanding that we are all creative, and that professional standards are not what is most important.

This business was created to finance all the projects that I was doing.
This was an attempt to create a sustainable situation as taking time out from the projects to generate money wastes my time and talents that can be put to so much better use helping to create a better world.
Neighborsusa.com offered ordinary people an affordable opportunity to have their personal internet presence.
I donated free space and design to worthy individuals and organizations who were unable to afford to pay .
The project was too soon for the internet boom and consumed more energy than was worthwhile.

Thousands of ordinary people have been directly activated by this project at such locations
as Parliament Sq. Hyde Park, Piccadilly, Trafalgar Sq, David Blaine's extravaganza @ Tower Bridge,
Glastonbury, Brighton, & is beginning to replicate in many states in the US and around the world.
The power of this campaign is that is self replicating requiring no "organisation".
Chalking is temporary, legal, and a widely acceptable as healthy form of self-expression.

THE STONEHENGE SUMMER SOLSTICE EXPERIMENT

The Stonehenge Peace Process
The Summer Solstice Gathering (Up to 32,000 gather for the Summer Solstice each year!).
Stonehenge has been closed to the public since 1985 after the annual festival was stopped by the authorities,
leading to much social unrest over a period of 15 years.

After extensive negotiations between the authorities and the community,
the public is now allowed full access for a limited window of time during the solstices and the equinox.
Since 2000, I have been involved with the Round Table negotiation along with English Heritage,
the police and individuals from all points of the cultural compass.

In 2000, Stonehenge was opened up to the public for the solstice after 15 years of being closed and riots taking place every summer over the issue of access -
 this represented a big step of trust on the part of the community to keep the peace and on the part of English Heritage
whose hand had been forced by the European Court Of Human rights
This Documentary was produced by Channel 4 and featured the work of the Peace Stewards that year of which I was one.
We had no idea how it was going to work out given the history of the troubles.

The Pyramid of infinite possibility encompasses the past, the present and the future.

The Past
is represented by burning a symbol of our past,
words or a drawing on a piece of paper, a metaphor for our past.
Burning in recognition that the past has truly GONE
along with it the strings that distort our present.

The Present
is represented by what we do and create within the pyramid, using the the creative
tools and materials provided - paint, paper, clay, wood, this and that.

The Future
is represented by hanging on the pyramid a personal expression,
hopes, dreams, ideas, aspirations etc.

Why idea is this idea crucial?

Our conversation, both personal and collective is the cornerstone of our culture.

War and peace are a reflection of the global mood.
It's -the conversation - that creates the conflict and pulls the trigger.

FEAR BREEDING FEAR

until someone jumps for the gun and warfare breaks out. -
Survival instincts out of control

"The conversation" is the sum total of all our thoughts, feelings, hopes and dreams,
woven through our interaction into one ocean that flows through all our lives.

In these times, our culture is a tinderbox,
a time bomb with a hair trigger that needs to be disarmed without disturbance.

Most current activism is oppositional -- "Anti" breeds "Anti"

People are angry and afraid The "Social Acupuncture" concept follows the axiom that

BUT YOU CAN sprinkle salt in its food - - OSMOSIS.

The belief that drives this project is that the need for simple fun and creativity is common to all of us and
it is the absence of this element in our lives creates an angst that
finds its home in dissatisfaction, fear and warfare.

The culture is evolving beyond second millennium thinking a millennium that gave warfare a whole other meaning,
This cultural shift requires re evaluation of some of the basic values from which we structure our lives.
We must move forward together in unity, with our collective realisation, rather than through conflict and
the victory of ideas, through the abuse of power and brute force!
At this time the survival of our culture and species is at stake. -Social Acupuncture - is
a tool offering the possibility of finding safe passage.

"When the conversation reaches critical mass, it transforms into action".
The "Social Acupuncture" concept looks at the collective cultural conversation as an acupuncturist looks at the human body. Seeking and identifying areas in -the conversation - where the free-flow of natural law is blocked.
Here, critical mass is more readily accessible.
Engaging with and introducing elements into these areas catalyses -the conversation - accelerating the process.
At the point of critical mass the prevailing paradigm no longer holds,
"the conversation" moves forward, a new paradigm evolves.

All cultural change happens this way, usually by default and we are all carried along by it with no hands on control. -
Social acupuncture creates a distinction for what already is and takes democracy to a whole other level.
-The power to make a difference with a single act of conversation - is in the hands of
the individual activating with consciousness and responsibility.

As it is that -every single raindrop entering the ocean becomes the ocean -,
wherever we engage with -the conversation -, we touch the whole.
Once the conversation is tweaked, it cannot be reversed.

How will I set about achieving this vision?

I will create a five year plan and I will focus more on the youth - the children,
who -s minds and hearts are still clear and open, who deserve the very best that we can do.
My work at this time is predominantly with late teens to 30's and 40's.
I am blessed with being able to peer cross generationally.
I also want to take the work to pre adolescence.
Even by adolescence it s almost already too late.

I will develop and build on the projects already in motion, taking it all to a whole new level.
To schools, universities and on the road in a form of road show.

Publicity and advertising shape the consciousness of our culture more than ever before.
I will use the media creatively, generating colourful and exciting publicity - TV, press, internet etc.

I will use the kudos in the BAFTA BBC movie and the issues raised,
to stimulate conversation about what our cultural values truly are.

I will activate my mailing list - around 250,000 contacts, collected within the peace, creative & political community.
I will expand and increase the effectiveness of the website as an interactive opportunity for collaboration/synergy

After years experimenting, I am seeing what works and what doesn't.
Joining the dots on all the projects and resources I can forward on all fronts simultaneously.

How  will more support (People, resources, funding) help in realising this vision?

Freeing myself up from the daily challenge/distraction of basic sustainability issues will allow me
to fully focus to build on the foundation that I have already created to bring this project to sustainability.
My goal is to formalise a non-executive board of independent advisors including
a business consultant, an accountant, and a public relations consultant.

I will structure myself appropriately to apply for funding, seek out and apply to various foundations
to create a solid financial base to bring this project into long term stability and sustainability

Where will the work be carried out? What part of the world will benefit?
Will there be a geographical limit to this work?


Currently I am operating In the UK in London and the South of the UK
through personal events and various community projects.

I am also operating globally through the internet, benefiting the whole culture.
As I become more financially independent, I will take this project on the road nationally, & internationally,
especially to America where I have spent over 20 years and have many contacts.
This vision has a global perspective & intent.

How will I know - that I am  making progress?

My measure will be the growth and effectiveness of the projects and of the individuals involved.
The culture -s greater understanding of what it is to be a human being.
The impact will be seen especially in the areas where I have been engaged and in the lives that are touched.
Sustainability through the marketing of ideas and statements via the internet and community events.

I look back over my life and see that progress is the established pattern,
so long as I keep the flame alive in my everyday life.
Projects are always successful on one level or another, the lessons,
the individuals whose lives are touched reverberating throughout the rest of time.

How will the world   - be more just and/or more peaceful after
5 years of my work and passionate commitment?

Our culture will listen more to our children - the youth,
making our children and all the children to come, the priority in any decision-making process or action taken.
Individuals and consequently the culture will have a clearer vision of the dynamics of being human.
Our cultural reality will evolve beyond a place where we fall into conflict over and over,
our strings pulled, our perception distorted by old stories that are no longer relevant.

Human relationships and our personal fulfilment will be rooted more
in our contribution to each other's lives and dreams coming true.
This attitude will be seen as being more and more as the path to our happiness and fulfilment.

Why am I best placed to take this idea forward?

I am fully committed to bring this vision to the table.
I love to engage with people at the grass roots, one on one or en masse.
I love meeting and interacting with all sorts of people.
I have a clear vision and as with all vision, this is unique and personal.
Only I can see my vision with full clarity because it is sourced within me,
therefore it can be communicated best by me, fired by the passion of clarity.

I have assumed a charismatic image as this vision takes over more and more in my life -
I am already fairly well known in many circles through the music and peace projects,
the Stonehenge Peace Process and, the BAFTA award TV movie -The Round Table -.

I am well equipped and positioned to take this vision forward.

I have spent my life committed to this work, never having any support financially
other than what I have generated through my personal efforts - home repairs etc. -
Going out on a limb, I risk my relationships - my credibility sometimes

The project has always been my number one priority -
I see it as my role, my service to life, my joy, my fulfilment, my responsibility to the children, to the future.
Nothing has ever stopped me other than my own personal growth issues which
I am constantly monitoring, taking inventory of and evolving through.
I don -t believe that anything can stop this work from being effective.

When I am overwhelmed by the challenge, I draw from the power within.
I pray for the strength courage and wisdom to take the next step and when I put my foot forward
there is always solid ground for me to stand on.

After five years, will my work be complete? Or will it require further development by me or, by others?

After thousands of years of global conflict and cultural evolution,
I believe that there will still be much to do to reach global harmony, my plan is to create an organism,
a vehicle, a trust or foundation, an understanding that will continue to grow and blossom far beyond my lifetime.


12. What have I done in the past that has prepared me for this challenge?

My whole journey through life has prepared me and brings me to this point,
acquiring many skills on many different levels,from the metaphysical to the physical.

After 35 years as a handyman with my "hands in the dirt". I can do almost anything.
I have great people skills, I have learned how create events and handle every aspect -
security, promotion, stage management, fiscal responsibility and realist budgeting etc.
I have computer skills, web design and desktop publishing
I am very comfortable as a public speaker and in front of a camera.

Through media exposure over the years, I have learned how to use the media to get my message across.
All of these skills and experiences can be employed in taking the vision forward.

Filling out this application has helped me to see my work holistically and given me the opportunity to
contemplate the amazing possibility that I can actually be freely available to work on this project fully.
Being chosen will give me the opportunity to do what I enjoy the most

For me this project is not work or a diversion it is my life and I love it!

How do I sustain myself 

I am self employed doing home repairs etc,

generating just enough to cover a fairly minimal life style for myself and my fiancé
while still having time and finance available to keep this vision expanding and moving forward.
I spend almost all my extra time on this project.

In relation to my vision, what do I consider to be my greatest achievement?

All of it really in a fractal sense (micro to macro).
Every individual whose life has opened up as a result of my work.
As I translate the vision and act in the vision, the projects/ideas become more complex
more powerful, far reaching and effective, more in integrity with the vision.
As I "dance the dream a wake" I am challenged to address & deal with
the same personal self-sabotaging issues that the global culture is also collectively facing.

But the most public achievement in reaching the most people,
has been the Stonehenge BAFTA TV movie "The Round Table"

reaching millions and continuing to do so, although the Stonehenge project itself has
all the elements of the human condition present and still has a long way to go before
I will feel that this conversation is complete.

 How do I see the transition to becoming a Visionary?

Casting my mind back over my life, I see that I have always been a visionary -
having a glimpse of perfection and of a perfect world culture,
and a compulsion to bring it into three-dimensional reality.
What has changed is my clarity, my confidence both in the validity of the vision and in myself -
My effectiveness has increased as I have grown and as transition to becoming an elder.

And The Future?

More of the same, continuing with the work of bringing the vision of
-our world working for all of us - without exception into reality

Why do I pursuing this idea on my own rather than as part of an organisation?

I have found that I am more effective working independently because only I can see my personal vision clearly;
I have found that it is really easy for the vision to be diluted by those who cannot actually see it fully.
My personality and my mission do not work within an already established organisation,
but it does needs an organisation, one sourced by me initially.
However at present I have a team of freelancers and volunteers who I work with on various aspects of the vision,
who are growing and developing their skills, and are available for specific projects.

I have worked independently for most of my life, both in money generating projects and creative/political projects;
I have been self-employed since I was around 19- 20 years old.
So working independently is where I am most familiar and comfortable.
I work from home now, but it is my desire and my intention to create an office focussed on my work
away from the home to stay clear of social/domestic distraction.

What kind of support am I looking for ?

Beyond the obvious financial needs taken care of, to free me up to develop the vision and bring it to fruition -
personal, office, rent, personal assistant, internet, basic upgrade of equipment,
I will look for business guidance through mentors/consultants,
I will find a public relations collaborator and a media team to help me take this message to the world also
a permanent team to coordinate and develop the various projects..

20. What inspires and nourishes me?
what are my  values and my view of the world?

Its all about the children.
What lights me up is seeing the smiling heart shining through the faces, the eyes of my fellow human beings -
I love to see dreams coming true, human potential realising itself.
I steer clear of politics wherever possible, but there are times when politics, art and spirituality intersect,
if anything I am a third way politician -
taking from the left the right and from all points in between that which rings true to me.

Trees are my role models, reaching each and every moment of their existence for the sun,
if anything gets in their way, they just grow around it.
